What is a Metaphizzle? It is the joyful wager on a new day.
- It is the playfulness, which we have forgotten behind our 24/7 digitally-always-on world.
- It is the moment when we realize that it is not a disaster but a welcome lightness that our endless to do lists will never be completely done.
- It is noticing the opportunity that each day brings to us...that for which each breath opens us to... to this moment. It is the still point and change.
- Metaphizzle is the beauty of nature and its constant change as a time-lesson for us humans. (Perhaps that's the profound yet grounded point that the lilies of the field make in blooming, or the sparrows in chirping, or the grasses make in their play in the breeze?)
And, of course, it's a practical and low maintenance backyard that gives us maximum pleasure in the being, and the looking, (and not so much the mowing...) and a front yard that invites gratitude that we are home again.
Growth and Renewal. Balance and Perception.(Is your landscape making you lucky?)
Life is about balance and perception. Gardens are about growth and renewal. A more relaxed, wider and ease full view also makes us lucky. Who knew? I come from the prairie (a long time ago...) where we consumed the work ethic before first suckling in milk. But it is in many ways, a liability to better perception.
"Lucky people have a relaxed attitude about life...When you are anxious or sad, our focus narrows.
We don't notice the opportunities around us because we are so focused on the ONE thing, for which
we are looking. The harder we look, the less we see. Lucky people see what is there."
– Richard Wiseman, The Luck Lactor: The Scientific Study of the Lucky Mind.

Personalized and Seasonalized. It is not your mother's landscape. (Probably.)
We specialize in Pacific Northwest native plants and Mediterranean low water plants that easily adapt well to our Northern California environments. We actually use natives in a design color palette for the celebration of the seasons. We don't just plunk them down but integrate them into a whole, which will function to remind us...even here...even now...that the seasons are alive and something to celebrate.
In the San Francisco area, we have choices. We have a lot of choice and those choices define us. Let's choose better, together. What we allow into our gardens is as important as what we weed out. (No I am not talking metaphysics...but that too.)
Your garden will not look like your neighbor's, because where's the fun in that? And you are not your neighbor (but, of course, you love them as yourself...if not, don't worry, we do great fences, too)
